What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

And you may well be spot on. I can't testify to the accuracy of that smoke plume map. Maybe it is accurate, maybe not. Thought it worth mentioning.

NWS Seattle Discussion: Quote: | By Wednesday, the
cooling trend is much more established as highs in the upper 70s
are expected with cooler overnight lows in place. A deeper trough
may enter the area for showers on Thursday. The amount of moisture
and dynamics associated with that trough will need to be watched
in the event of thunderstorms. Fuels across the area have reached
or exceeded the 90th percentile ERC values thanks to recent heat,
and would therefore be more susceptible to lightning starts. |
Looking out it stays mostly warm to hot for most of the first half of August with lot's of potential thunderstorms possible by around the 12th (after more hot weather). Just hope this does not materialize.

Not seeing a problem. Seems like we are all trying to add to the pool of knowledge of where smoke may be

That's an excellent map. Easy to maneuver around in. Great artistry and design. Thanks for posting it. ~z

I've looked at that map for years. It is a great resource. But look at it with a grain of salt. I think it does a good job with the winds, as well as existing smoke, but has a tough job estimating the amount of smoke that is generated by new fires. Yesterday it had the brush fire around Roy as being a significant source of smoke. I have a hard time believing that was the case, given the size and nature of the fire (small and brushy). To its credit, it doesn't even list the fire now.
I think it is worth looking at that map and the InciWeb map (which shows U. S. fires). That way you can estimate whether a fire will become big or die down. I'm not sure the best source for BC fires.

Ok, thanks. I should have qualified my statement more. I was mainly thinking it was great for just locating places. Mountain ranges, rivers, and other terrain features are labelled nicely. I'm no map expert for sure and we have so many to choose from. But something about this one appeals to me. I am definitely not a smoke and wind expert either. But funny you should mention the brush fire near Roy. I saw that too and wondered how big it was. ~z

I am currently taking a break on the ridge between Southeast Fool Hen and Fool Hen and we are watching the Keremeos Creek Fire explode this afternoon. Smoke looks to be blowing to the SE.
