That's interesting they've been around since 2012 and yet no one knows of them, but they're still around so shows there's some business viability. I wonder how many subscribers they have.

It's a bit limited though, you really want them to reach out to authorities like IERCC:

Quote:
HikerAlert.com IS NOT a professional emergency response service or search and rescue service, nor is HikerAlert.com affiliated with any such organizations. HikerAlert.com does not directly notify or contact any official search and rescue authorities. It is the responsibility of the User's selected emergency contact person(s) to notify any and all appropriate authorities.

Update: I think what you'd want to do is essentially make the Reliable Friend service to be a IERCC partner and be just like any another supported device, just you have some human smarts around it and make trip report planning a cinch etc.: https://www.iercc.com/en-US/supported-devices/

Tom says it's ok to post a post asking if someone will call 911 if I/you don't come back.

Since that was such an easy yes, I will next ask him if he will wash my car for me.  I think it is wrong to wash cars, but I don't mind if someone else does it.  That's probably a new thread though.

Why not cut out the middleman and send $25 directly to your friendly neighborhood SAR organization?

Benefits:

99.9% of trips end well. So this is a useful and completely on-brand way of fundraising for additional equipment, gear, etc with a useful public service.

SAR would know where the person is hiking, what they are wearing and will be able to initiate a search sooner, with many of the usual unknowns crossed out. They may also retrieve the missing person more quickly as a result.

Communications - when confirming receipt of the trip plan, SAR can also include messaging about the 10 essentials, Leave No Trace, trail closure links and avalanche report links (in season) and any other pertinent information

SAR would probably wash your car too if you opt to donate it if you don't come back.

You guys inspired me, so Chelan County S&R just got $25, since Snoho County S&R didn't have a paypal option.

Keep it safe out there people.

What if I come back but you don't.
Just looking at the fine print.

You inspired me too. Especially after the risks I've taken solo these past few years.

And experiencing a fall solo on my birthday recently.
