I've seen Top Gun 2 a few times. Great, nastalgic movie. I've researched a bit and read the fly scene of the jets with odd contrail "pillows" was filmed in the Tieton region above Rimrock Lake. That makes sense. But... Where were all the other scenes filmed?

I am certain one was above Lake Katchess facing SSE. See here:
To Google Earth here:

The flyover the pass upside down scene could be Mt. Hagen flying W in the gap explained in the Beckey Guide for Stevens Pass to Canada.
To Google Earth here:
Note Google Earth is pretty poor at sharp edges. confused.gif

The steep climb scene could be Gardner Peak heading S:
To Google Earth here:

Finally, in the training scene with pasture land I think that is Davis Lake by Twisp here:
To Google Earth here:

I spend a fair amount of time in the Methow and see fighter jets regularly. Up high and loud. Just above tree tops up the Chewuch. Up Lake Chelan over McGregor. So, maybe that leaves some clues if I am off.

I am certain on Lake Katchess. I'm pretty certain on Mt. Hagen, I'm less certain on Gardner and Davis Lake. What do you think? Do you know for sure?

Numerous scenes were filmed using the Whidbey growler training loop that contains the areas you point out

I would pay obscene amounts of money to fly passenger on a trip like this. Flew over the Ramparts, Glacier Peak, Daniel, and so many other awesome places.

It's really fun picking out places you've been to. Jade Lake was quite stunning. There's other videos of the route on youtube. They make different variations of the route but almost every video they shoot the gap between Daniel and Hinman. I witnessed it from the saddle between Venus and Shovel. Would be cool to camp near the Daniel-Hinman saddle or the tarns on the north side and watch the jets fly over.

I believe the “flyover the pass” scene is the north coulior on Ten peak.

Not necessarily “over”. I was near the summit of Hinman and watched four jets go over La Bohn Gap at a lower altitude than I was at. Looking down on them was quite something.

Stunning footage, but beware: I once watched these daredevils set off a MASSIVE rock slide between Rowena and Chain Lakes. I've learned to look for cover when I hear them coming.

Is this a standard flight route? Or training?

Yikes that's a good point. I was camping at Lake Ivanhoe a couple weeks ago which is in a very narrow gap. I've never heard them reverberate so much. Fighters definitely ruin the wilderness experience a bit but they're also really cool to see.

It’s a military low-altitude training route called VR-1355, google that term and there’s info and a bunch of cockpit videos of the flight and etc. Starts around the Columbia River gorge, past Adams and Rainier, over Keechelus Lake, past Hinman and over Stevens Pass, just to the west of Glacier, then a turn to the west to go home to Whidbey NAS.

Edit: You can see it on the map here https://skyvector.com/?ll=48.37024811214284,-122.74883645985696&chart=1&zoom=2

Oh cool I see it yeah, so VR is visual route, and there’s an IR route to the north, which I’d assume is an instrument route.

Nice.  Lots of goodies in there if you slow down the playback speed.

Here is the North Coulior on Ten Peak from Google Earth. South of Glacier Peak so in line with the video and VR-1355 training route. Nice work people. That video is AMAZING.

Most definitely not a fighter jet, but we watched (from Wright) two troop transport planes fly up the Middle Fork and turn and come over Gem Lake, dropping down to Snow Lake and flying up and over the ridge.  Not as sexy as the jets, but it had our full attention, LOL.
