Does anyone have any good links or information on road work on Hwy 410? I read several WTA trip reports of folks heading to Sunrise/White River being held up by construction traffic for up to an hour. Also several people have gotten cracked windshields or chips from flying rocks. I was thinking of going up that way but will hold off if there is an end date before the fall snows arrive. Thanks, ~z

I was down to MRNP yesterday Aug. 12th. The Highway 410 WSDOT chip seal project is still going on. Early in the morning going south on 410 no problem, as they had not started working yet. On the way back to Enumclaw in the afternoon the contractor was working between the Federation Forest Park and Enumclaw. They had one lane closed to spread the asphalt oil and gravel for the new clip seal. I had to wait about ten minutes for the one way traffic. Most of the traffic was headed for MRNP. Looks like it will be a few more weeks to finish the project. I did not see any of the loose gravel flying, as the speed limit was reduced to 35 MPH from 55 MPH.

Thank you, Dusty Trale. That's very helpful. I definitely want to avoid the flying gravel. I have enough chips in my windshield already. ~z

Timely post. Just got back from 410 and have two new dings in my windshield and one on the body of my car due to flying gravel from passing traffic. mad.gif There's two sections of semi-compacted gravel highway that were maybe 5 miles(?) each between Enumclaw and the park entrance.

When we were driving there a large rock came off of a passing dump truck between Black Diamond and Enumclaw unrelated to the work but totaled the windshield over a grand to replace and recalibrate sensors (no deductible insurance). Lots of flying chips going and coming. Big crowd ant gate to park as Sunrise PL full and they would only let cars through if someone left. Pain as we were camping at White River and doing day hikes.

I was at Crystal Mtn on Monday and they were chip-sealing 2 stretches between there and Greenwater. One lane closed with a pilot car escorting traffic through. We sat for about an hour total.

I got stuck in this last week and messaged WSDOT, since it wasn't on the app or website. Here is the reply: Good morning. Looks like we missed getting it on our website/app so getting it added today. Sorry about that. It'll be happening 7 am-7 pm Monday-Friday through September.

Another message: Just got an update that it sounds like they are about done out there, with final sweeping work scheduled for Thursday so likely 7 am-7 pm through Thursday and then they should be out of there.

Thanks for the updates, kiliki. Is this the map that you used to find information? If you (or anyone else) have any tips on how to use it for this project feel free to let me know. Here's a question. Re: All the flying gravel, etc., is this occurring during the actual work times or is there residual gravel now on the road that flies up from oncoming traffic or leading traffic? In other words when the work stops will the chance of getting hit lessen considerably? Would one have to wait for weeks for this segment to cure and not be such a hazard? Thanks, ~z

I didn't see anything on any map, so I messaged them on Facebook, because I wanted to go to Owyhigh Lakes today without getting stuck in an hour long closure or getting tar on my newish car. That's where they responded--twice. It was good customer service!

The latter. Alas.

Didn't get stuck in any work traffic last weekend but LOTS of flying gravel. Hoping the "final sweep" means it will be gone *fingers crossed*

WSDOT says the right lane of 410 near Crystal River Ranch is still closed. Anyone been by lately? I don't want to get stuck for an hour.

Went through that 410 area Sunday, no road active road construction as far as I could see. No flying gravel this time either.
