It's interesting that pointy notch design at the end of the gate was used on those pear (double pear?) shaped biners way back in the day - I see those one cheapie hammock biners and other basically hardware store level biners, and those pointy ends are sharp AF and would presumably be murder on hemp ropes from 100 years ago.
