This is a thread to post the mylar balloons you've found. I used to despise them, but somehow my grrrr, has become "Score, found another one". I know, I'm a very sick man. agree.gif
Some of the mylar balloons that I?ve found in the mountains since last fall.

I have found quite a few. One made me happy. It was still inflated and declared that it loved me. I carried it down the hill. A logger asked me for it so he could give it to his wife, so I did. I guess that way it got recycled.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

I've found a bunch near Rampart Ridge over the past couple years. It must be a vacuum for them. Here's my partner liberating a cluster of three last year:

These ones on Pilot Ridge still had a little helium in them. They are not even mylar.

I'm encouraging my partners to hike with them attached to packs ..usually 2 or 3 Several advantages..for one it lightens the load by .0005 ounces..thats well over a minute of extra fuel time.. Emergency pillow.. Signaling device (poke hole for the eye sight) Lastly it just looks cool...oh and I also hear rumors to the effect of boosting the cell phone signals in the forest....or valleys...point at balloon..put on speaker phone and yell at the phone for better communication... I think this could be the new tik tok trend...

I went way out of my way to pick up one mylar balloon. I thought it was a dead hiker. But it turn out to be a really big purple Barney dinosaur balloon.

I thought of attaching a dozen weather balloons to my pack to lighten my load. party.gif

Funny thing is that my wife and I where at bogu brewing in monroe on Thursday, right about the time this was posted. 99 luft balloons came on. A big old biker started bobbing his head. We had a short conversation about the versions and when it came out. I did my best Casey Cason. I usually do pretty good at guessing 80's music because our bus driver would blast top 40. 6th grade, 99 balloons came in between back on the chain gang and she's a man eater. I used to do an annual trip across blanca before the thaw. I've found a few on the lake.

Balloons are one of my pet peeves. It is a rare trip that I don't find a balloon. They are terrible litter. I always shoot a photo and record the location. Someday I'm going to make a database to track them.
