We had a birthday party for some relatives and a cute couple of uninvited visitors came by. Last two nights some less welcome visitors came by.

Rare bird of prey? Does anybody recognize the species? Gyrfalcon?

I don’t need a trail cam. Seeing lots of bears in person this year!

For your bathing bird clip I am only seeing three distinct bands on the tail feathers. Hard to discern any mustache presence. A gyrfalcon with have many more thinner bands on the tail feathers. Gotta go with a Cooper’s Hawk for this sighting. https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Gyrfalcon/id

You will see gyrfalcons in wide open spaces like tundra and alpine areas. They are after ptarmigan and small mammals. The Cooper’s hawk is much lighter than a gyrfalcon (1.2 lbs vs 3.2 lbs). The Cooper’s hawk can hunt for birds in the forested areas. While pursuing a bird it can drop its long tail like a drag-racer drops a parachute to slow down. The smaller bird is more agile and the heavier weight for a hunter means momentum wants it to keep going forward. A gyrfalcon is just too heavy to pursue birds in a forested setting. It can’t slow down fast enough. A goshawk is a good second guess. Can’t appreciate a white stripe over the eye and the video shows a bird with a long tail like a Cooper’s hawk.
