Sept 19th, strong smell of smoke is in the air. I am kinda surprised, the winds are favorable, we shouldn't be smelling any forest fire smoke. why the smoke..unless there is a nearby fire somewhere in Seattle?

Bolt Creek Fire on Route 2. You can see it pouring out of that valley on the Purple Air map.

I'm downtown Seattle and I smell it inside the building I'm in (no, it's not on fire).

I am on the North edge of Lake Union and I can smell it. It can't be from Bolt Creek 'cause the winds are out of the N.W.

The smoke is being blown mostly into the North Sound, so the NW wind is probably bringing it to you from there. you can see the satellite video in this tweet: https://twitter.com/NWSSeattle/status/1571917309828276224?cxt=HHwWgIDRyeCdydArAAAA

Cliff Mass says Bolt Creek. Smoke will pour out of the valley in the mornings, and get a bit better in the afternoon as it mixes with the atmosphere. We can expect the same through Wednesday evening when winds switch to more of an on shore flow. https://cliffmass.blogspot.com/2022/09/smoke-plume-from-bolt-fire-invades.html

I guess it doesn't matter where the smoke smell is coming from. (really, it doesn't). It just is. Small annoyance to those of us not affected to any great extent.

Distinct smoke smell in Olympia too, no visible smoke at all.

Windy here. Had to pedal downhill and used higher assists going against it. But the tailwind was great! But the tailwind was a headwind on the way home. Anyway, not a hint of smoke, cool nights, life is good again. We do have a fire weather warning, which I don't know the difference between that and a red flag warning. Maybe the flag has to be kept at half mast for the Queen?

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

Yea, we got smoke smell in PA on the Olympic Peninsula. It's not too bad now and the haze is barely noticeable. Rumi
