For those who have hiked it with the cables down. What kind of gear did you bring?

I have heard people bring lanyards to tie into the cables. The cables are still there. They just lie on the rock instead of being propped up by the poles.

Art is an adventure.

Prussiks, slings, harness. It was icy and I was carrying a big pack of camping gear and food for climber friends topping out after climbing El Cap and Half Dome in a 24 hour push. Despite the conditions, I felt it was safer alone with the cables down than during crowds of summer in which I felt I might get hit and knocked off by a falling tourist.

https://www.mercurynews.com/2018/05/30/half-dome-deaths-hikers-fell-from-cables Wet conditions seem to correlate strongly with bad outcomes.
