I can only conclude that it is due to a tossed cigarette, or illegal camping. What else could it be? |
Those are my two guesses as well.

Checks thread title ... says fires ... checks photo ... it's a fire ...
The fire in downtown Seattle looks small and I don't think it can possibly be contributing much to the air quality we're experiencing.
Today being Wednesday, a lot of people are at work in the metro area. This air is unhealthy for anybody to breathe and can be downright dangerous to people and pets with respiratory issues. Smoke from fires can cause blood clots in cats. The amount of time it spends aloft influences just how toxic it is.

Hiking doesn’t seem all that appealing at the moment with the tinder dry conditions. And no rain in sight!

I was on a noon flight from Spokane to Seattle Wednesday. Flight was at about 22,000’ according to the pilot.

PM 2.5 at Stevens this morning is in high 400s. 300-500 is "hazardous." I wonder what they call >500?

I haven't heard much about the fire burning above McAllister Creek. Here is smoke from it filling the Thunder Creek Valley. From Buckner yesterday.

I posted about it in the I smell smoke thread, I think. We got smoked out for a few hours from it. Lightning Bill on Leecher Lookout identified it as the source of the smoke.
We've been clear since.
What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

Ah, so you did. NPS page. Too many fire threads. Hope Thursday's dump puts an end to all this.

This is exactly what GB predicted a few pages back. A red flag warning for this week!

On my way out of the Mountain Loop this weekend, I stopped at one of the riverside campsites to have a look at the view and as I passed the obligatory dummy fire ring, I could feel heat coming off of it on my legs. I ran to my car and emptied out what water I had left over on the thing and stirred it as it smoldered. Passed a bunch of other dummies with large fires going on the warm (and still light out) afternoon. Super annoying. As I passed the ranger station on the way back, they had their fire warning signs just done for the season...no info. Ugh.
