On October 16, 1986 Reinhold Messner summited Lhotse and in doing so became the first person to summit all 14 of the 8000 meter peaks in the world. Additionally, he accomplished this feat without the use of supplemental oxygen. The man has some flaws, but I think everyone must acknowledge he is dang bad@$$.

I would say he is without peer as a climber, and that he is still alive is amazing as well, he is now old and bold.

Still have an autographed copy of the German Edition of his Everest book from a German friend.

Seems like he should have been in a Simpsons episode by now, but I can’t find one.

There was definitely a missed opportunity during the episode when Homer climbed the Murderhorn.
