“The Everett woman, 24, as a passenger in a Kia Sorrento SUV. The driver tried to get distance from the suspect vehicle, a Subaru SUV around 7:48 p.m., when someone in it shot through the rear passenger window of the Kia, according to the Washington State Patrol” It does seem that I interpreted that wrong. The shooter vehicle was to the rear, which means the driver or a passenger did the shooting.

"Create space" is a very vague description that means almost nothing. I dunno if the police reports were trash or the reporter isnt good or the witnesses were unreliable... but its hard to tell what was going on.

Taking a step back, drivers and passengers are the only kinds of people who are ever inside a moving car, so it had to be one or the other of these. smile.gif

Kia passenger Raelyn Nicole Davis was shot and killed. She died at the scene. Investigators said that after a road rage incident between the two vehicles, the driver of the Kia attempted to pull away from the Subaru, but a Subaru passenger shot through the rear passenger window of the Kia, the news release said. The Subaru fled and there have been no arrests. Witnesses told detectives the Subaru was a dark color with a mounted cargo basket on its roof.

Article from KOMO with some extra details: SKYKOMISH, Wash. — A 24-year-old Everett woman is dead after a deadly road rage incident in Skykomish Saturday night, according to Washington State Patrol (WSP). On Monday, her family identified to her as 24-year-old Raelyn Davis. Her grandmother said Raelyn had spent the day in Leavenworth celebrating Octoberfest, with a family and their children. Geri Davis told KOMO News, she was riding in a car with the husband and wife and their children were in another vehicle, all caravanning west on their way home to Everett. "Raelyn really was in a way the one who held our family together she was interested in us, and we wanted the best for her, she was such an empathetic person," said her grandmother, "She was always excited for everyone’s success very emphatic and felt the pain everyone was going through." Davis said she and Raelyn talked or texted nearly every day. She had just moved into an independent living facility in February, and into her first apartment. She recently got an internship to work on life skills at Kindred Kitchens in Everett said Davis. "It will take a long time to heal our hearts so we can smile, she was just starting just starting at 24 (years old)." The deadly road rage incident happened on State Route 2 near milepost 63. The woman was in the passenger seat of a 2014 Kia Sorrento when she was shot and killed, WSP said. "She was in the back sit and hit her and she died immediately it shattered all of our hearts," said Davis. Troopers said the incident began as road rage between the Kia and the suspect vehicle, a Subaru SUV just before 8 p.m. Saturday. WSP said the driver of the Kia attempted to create distance between their vehicle and the Subaru when an occupant from the Subaru shot through the rear passenger window of the Kia. Davis was struck by the gunfire and was pronounced deceased on scene. On Monday, her family made a plea to the driver or anyone in the vehicle to do the right thing and come forward. "Don't hurt anybody else don't put any other family through this," said Davis with her daughter Whitney Shane holding her hand. Shane flew in from Atlanta after learning the news. "You have nothing to do with anything you're not antagonizing anyone- you are sitting just trying to come home from a good time," said Shane. "The thing I would ask if you saw something and think not important, or you saw a Subaru come up behind you and felt uncomfortable report it," Davis said. The Subaru left the scene in an unknown direction. WSP detectives are actively working on the case and requesting help in locating the suspect's vehicle. It is described as a dark-colored Subaru SUV with a cargo basket mounted on the roof. "If you see any vehicles that match the description you are asked to call or email Detective Sergeant Michael Marken at (360) 654-1140 or Michael.Marken@wsp.wa.gov. Your assistance is appreciated as we work to locate the suspect vehicle in this tragic incident," said Trooper Kelsey Haring with WSP.

It's a shame its come to this in our society when a young lady loses her life over a road rage incident. I hope that they are able to find the person who did this and prosecute it to the fullest. Weather they are able to decipher anything from the traffic cams or businesses around. Not knowing what direction the suspect vehicle went in probably doesn't help. Hopefully some info will come forth and lead to an arrest. Prayers go out to the family.

It doesnt harm the investigation nearly as much in this case... there are only 2 ways they could go... unless they took a convoluted set of forest roads and even then options are limitted.

Just speculating, but I wouldn't be surprised if the occupants of the suspect Subaru also partook in the festivities at Octoberfest. I once represented a lady on a DUI who blew some ridiculously high blood alcohol level in Monroe and her last drink was in Leavenworth, meaning she drove over the pass obliterated. Octoberfest in Leavenworth is a crime machine.

I agree. Lots of ways to "create space" - brake checking, throwing an object at a car, or simply putting the pedal to the metal. Obviously there's no justifiable reason to blindly fire at a vehicle unless your life is in danger, but there still seems to be a lot of missing context here.

There is a lot we don't know. The incident occurred in a section of US-2 that has four lanes -- so it would seem this there is more to the story than someone losing their patience on a two lane highway for an opporunity to pass. It seems likely that there was interaction between the two vehicles prior to a gun being drawn and fired -- what exactly that was is hard to know based on the information at hand. Hopefully the police investigation will uncover full information and the persons responsible for this violence will be brought to justice.

An impossible task to find without more information. That describes my son's car (he's in California this week).

Maybe it wasn't even a Subaru. Lots of crossover SUVs look similar in the dark.
