Nice here.
Is it still nice (I can't remember where you live)? At this point, most of the state has significant smoke, from what I can tell. Spokane is getting hit hard, for example. Yakima isn't too bad, but it is still in yellow (72). There may be pockets here and there that are good (since there aren't monitors everywhere) but I wouldn't be surprised if almost the entire state is a mess. This extends to Vancouver BC and Portland as well. The only place that looks good is the northern coast (time to hike at Shi Shi). I can't wait for the rain.

Here's the smoke forecast map. Notice how it changes over the next two days. Rumi

Currently the AQI is hovering around 320 +/- at my house just outside Woodinville city limits (per purpleair). I don't recall it ever being quite this heinous before right here. My wife experienced worse in Portland in September 2020 when the fire was burning near Troutdale, and I experienced a bit worse on one trip to Beijing some years back before they put in some effort to clean the air in that region. And I know it's worse today out at Tall Timbers near Lake Wenatchee and at some of the sensor sites north of Leavenworth (looks like a LOT of folks up there have AQI sensors btw!). And it's been this bad or worse for weeks out around Skykomish and thereabouts. So there's always someone worse of to compare to... But in any case, here's hoping that the rain is indeed significantly wetting and that a PSCZ sets up as the NWS forecast discussion mentioned being possible around the Snohomish/King county border. I guess I've probably also experienced worse at the campground at Cape Disappointment SP when there was stagnant air and SO many nasty wood campfires. There were just no AQI sensors telling us just HOW bad it was

Purple is showing measurements near that site at around 250. But it is also reporting that 850. Could be topography or a single bad instrument

Hmmm... Looking at Thurs Oct 20th, an almost circular "plume" of smoke centered over the eastern OP forms throughout the day. At 7pm it still stretches from Lake Quinault to the west to North Bend & Gold Bar to the east, and from Lopez Island to the north to almost Centralia to the south. And poof, an hour later at 8pm it vanishes

I doubt it would be 250 as it is higher than that throughout the area. Diablo would be in the worst shape re the Chilliwack Fires. It was also the smokiest in that area last Sunday night.

According to a report I heard on NPR earlier today, Seattle supposedly had the worst air quality in the world (for urban cities), due to these fires. I thought it was a bit of an exaggeration, but a Seattle Times article confirmed:
Quote:
"Seattle ranked as the worst city worldwide for air quality and pollution at one point Wednesday afternoon, according to IQAir, a Swiss air-quality technology company that also operates a real-time air-quality information platform. Portland and Vancouver, B.C., also ranked in the Top 10. Seattle ranked ahead of Lahore, Pakistan, for a time as the two cities with the least healthy air quality. Delhi, India, ranked third. Later in the day, Lahore overtook Seattle, which still ranked second in the world."
I'm sure areas to the north are considerably worse, if some of these photos are any indication. frown.gif
