I flew home from NYC this evening and it indeed does look like the entire state of Washington is trapped under a blanket of smoke. Who would have ever thought that the air would be cleaner in New York City than the Pacific NW, but it’s true.

When we see numbers like this, but a random green spot, do we assume the green is an error?

IT moved in last night. I turned off the window fan but by then it was no use to close the window and I went back to sleep smelling the smoke. It is better this morning, I think.

Me either. There are spots on the western OP that look good and if I wasn't working, I'd be there.

Any ideas why the air quality in Seattle is even worse today according to the sensors, but it no longer smells like smoke? Like, I wouldn't even know the air was bad if I didn't know to look online.

The ash tray smell is gone but the smoke isn't. You can see it in the color and visual obscurity of anything more than a couple hundred yards away, and the lack of shadows.

Here on Hollywood Hill (near Woodinville) the AQI is way down from Hazardous (where it was most of yesterday and through last night) to merely smack in the middle of the Unhealthy" range. I'm surprised our neighbor isn't back out rebuilding her spite fence. Smells more like a bunch of crap wood campfires now, whereas it just smelled kind of bland but acrid early this morning when the AQI was still way up there near Hazardous. Looks like some nice air has been making its way down the Strait of Juan de Fuca. I'm hoping for a significant PSCZ to hose those fires out around highway 2 and thereabouts, even though it will probably also trigger the first big wave of crap falling down onto the highway.

Today in Brier we had the worst smog in the 40 years that I have been living in the PNW. Folks who have lived in the LA basin are probably finding this all too familiar.
