I didn't see this posted anywhere, but the picnic area/trail is now closed off for bridge reconstruction. So it seems like a new bridge will be in place by early October!

About time. There are also quite a few trees across the trail that need to be cleared.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

Lots of people were crossing the river this year. I wonder if concerns over liability sped things up.

I saw they had the bridge pieces in the parking lot this weekend! There were also tons of people who decided to park on the side of the road or over on the forest road across Mountain Loop and were still venturing over to the ice caves despite all the signs closing it off. shakehead.gif

Was the picnic area even open at all this summer? I was there to view the Perseid shower (mid-August) and the gate to the picnic area was locked with a "no parking at any time" sign in front of it.

We went in via the main parking lot in mid June, we usually go from the picnic area. If the bridge is repaired we might be able to get to the hoo doo mine sometime in Oct.

I was there in mid July. Parking lot to the caves was open and absolutely desolate. I've never seen that parking lot completely empty. Checked out the bridge, wasn't much to cross the river, even carrying my 6 year old. The main cave had not formed yet but we had a good time anyway.

Bumping this thread up - the bridge is now re-installed. Article from the Everett Herald.

^^^ Yeah, I thought that too, C-Path. Also just in time to "stress test" it.
