A ski friend who has a place near Mazama suggested this at a party on November 5th. He thought that with that one big storm the effort to plow the road would be insurmountable. Historically, the highway usually closes when the snow depth approaches 36" at Washington Pass; but this storm probably caused some large amounts of avalanche debris to runout on the highway. I recall one year, with smaller storms where the highway remained open with up to 39" at Washington Pass. It was still open until mid-January or so that year and I skied many times up there.
