https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/nov/07/italian-ultra-cyclist-aims-to-complete-first-coast-to-coast-crossing-of-antartica-by-bike Next week Omar Di Felice will begin a journey no human has previously attempted. The Italian ultra-endurance cyclist will arrive at Hercules Inlet, in western Antarctica, and begin cycling over the ice towards the south pole. All going well, he will ride for 60 days through almost 2,000km of treacherous terrain, passing the pole and reaching Leverett Glacier in mid-January to complete the first coast-to-coast crossing on a bike.

Are Ebikes allowed? biggrin.gif

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

strange.gif I anticipate that the documentary about the rescue will be more gripping than the one about the journey.

He is going to need really low gearing to pull a sled with 60+ days of food and fuel.

Sounds pretty insane. Not sure what benefit the bike brings in those conditions. A human walked across the continent in 53 days, so this is a slower way to travel that will probably be mostly hike-a-biking.

From the pole to McMurdo station there is an ice road where rolling along at 50-60 km per day is possible. Other than that he using a bike because he a cyclist and this would be a first , RM walked across a while back.

Last week found me touring in Iceland. At this time of the year the bicyclists use studded tires to get around the city. I suspect he will also be using studded tires for his endeavor.. He might also attach a sail to his bicycle for added power. Skiers have used that technique when skiing across Antarctica.
