Impressive...most impressive. Ive seen worse inversions but also in much bigger terrain(jackson hole iirc). Thats quite a jump for 2000 vertical feet.

Either too cold or too warm
Theres 2 phases to every wave. If theres a giant cold airmass... not far away there is a giant warm one too.

The icing snuck up on us in Ballard. I went out around 9 on Thursday to bring the hummingbird feeders in for the night. It was dead calm but I could hear very light precipitation delicately "tinkling" down like glass. There was no wind during the night so it was a surprise to see the heavy glaze next morning. It didn't seem like there'd been a storm. Some of the yard bamboo was laid low and my granite landscaping boulders looked like they'd been polished. The neighborhood silence was marvelous, just like on heavy snowfall days.
I spent part of the day making braided Christmas bread, but my Tweety had the best idea: hunker down and snooze all afternoon. The fringe that's all over her blankie is one of her cat crafting hobbies.

Let's go skiing today! NWS Discussion this AM:
Quote:
Cross Cascade gradients continue to trend toward 0 tonight but still negative into the early morning hours. Will be cautious and keep the ice storm warning going for the passes tonight. It will be a tough call on when the cold air gets scoured out of the passes. Could see an inch or so of ice accusations in the passes by later tonight. This is a dangerous situation with the possibility of tress coming down on the highways as well as power outages in the area.
At Xmas 1968 several of us went to Jackson Hole (not the golf course) for a week of skiing. We rode the train and passed through the Columbia River Gorge just after a period of very cold weather and a recent ice storm. There was perhaps 4" of ice on poles, etc. along the tracks. It had really been cold because 3-4' of pack ice was just breaking up on the Hood River. Skiing at Jackson was great.

Incidentally the big winner as far as warming up was the top of White Pass @5800' with a 24 hour temperature change of 47 degrees.....

I recall once seeing nearly 40f at the top (5250’) and 15f at the bottom (4000’) of Loup Loup ski area. 25 deg in 1250 ft.!
