Because I asked for recommendations a month ago, I figured I'd report back on our trip to Stehekin for New Year's. I posted some trip reports over at WTA, but you all get the photos. In brief, we took the Stehekin Ferry and stayed at the Stehekin Creekside Cabin. Both were wonderful, with friendly and kind hosts. The cabin comfortably fit four solo adults and came with a Jeep to get us to trails.
On our first full day, we hiked the Lakeshore Trail. Yay, sunshine and incredible scenery!
After that, we did the short walk to Rainbow Falls.
On our second full day, we drove to the end of the plowed road, at Stehekin Valley Ranch, snowshoed the road to High Bridge, then the old road to the turn-off just short of McGregor Cr, then the turn-off to the PCT marked as a XC ski trail, coming back on the PCT past Howard Lk to High Bridge, and back on the road to the car. The river was lovely. The road walk felt like a road walk.
Before catching the ferry, we poked around the Buckner Orchard for a bit, checking out all the animal tracks -- mostly marten.
The only other hikers we saw all weekend were deer. All the businesses were closed. It was lovely to explore the area in winter. The boat ride alone was gorgeous.

Very cool that they let you borrow a jeep! I saw a few Airbnbs on Kauai with the same perk.

What a great trip! Many decades ago (1970s) I went to Stehekin in winter but in March. The valley and lake are special anytime but as your pictures show, perhaps extra special with fresh snow all over.

Passing rocks and trees like they were standing still

Beautiful pictures ! I have to ask about the second photo - is that the inside of the ferry that takes people to Stehekin? The seats look like airplane seats. Surely people don't expect to watch movies on the screens when they are surrounded by all this natural beauty? What is shown on the screens?

Seawall, yes, that's the inside of the Stehekin Ferry. Don't worry; the screens were blank. smile.gif I think they said that they repurposed the seats. Maybe they got them for cheap from Boeing.
