Still don't!
Not a top15 team this year.
No interior size, defense, backup for Timme, or true PG (or SG or wing who can reliably drive and score)
Nobody except Strawther is going to ever make an NBA roster, and that's not even a sure thing. While it's *possible* to be a good or great college team without any future NBA guys as ball handlers, it's not very common.
Recent Zag teams have had 3-5 future NBA guys.

Oumar Ballo might come in handy for the Zags right about now. After being a solid reserve last year at Arizona, he's turned into a star this year. He followed Tommy Lloyd to UA. There's your size.

I agree. They are severely lacking dominant inside big men, especially on the defensive side. Last I looked they are #12 and likely to fall further. Holmgen should have stayed another year, I think they should be required to play at least 2 college seasons.

Zags knocked off Alabama today (who recently handed Houston their first loss). Maybe GU's season isn't quite lost yet.

The Alabama win was a good one, but I think 'Bama is over-rated since although they have a ton of talent, they are very turnover prone.
I think the Zags will roll through the rest of the season with their weak conference play but will also continue to improve as they have more playing time together as a team. I see them making the sweet siteen, but I doubt that they advance beyond that.
Timme has been playing great, except for his free throw shooting. He gets called for a few travels, but imo he travels a LOT more than is called. He moves his feet so quickly that the officials frequently miss it.
His nickname should be Traveling Timme...not sure if he will get away with it as much in the NBA, but then traveling is often over-looked there.

Well, the Zags 74 game home winning streak came to an end tonight by 1 point to Loyola or LMU.
A one point loss and Timme missed I think 5 free throws...In the first half he was guarded by LMU's 7' 2" shot blocking center and he had like 3 points.
I don't see him going far in the NBA, who wants a slow white guy that can't really jump, has no outside shot and can't make free throws? Plus I see him as a defensive liability against elite and quick players. I will be shocked if he goes in the first round of the draft despite being an all-american choice.
The Zags were rated #8 in the country and will likely fall several spots. I think realistically they are a top 20 team, but not a lot higher. But at least the games have been more close and exciting this year, not like in the past when most conference games were blow outs.

Zags have been flirting with this for several weeks. They've had several close wins against WCC opponents.
As far as Timme...yeah, really good college player. If he had much NBA potential, he would already be there. Just hardly anyone stays for 4 years if the NBA wants them.

True. After they blew out Portland people were saying that they were back on course, righted the ship per se.
I completely disagreed, I watched enough of the game to know that Portland played a horrible game, giving the Zags many wide open 3 pointers and little defensive opposition overall.

Big game coming up this Saturday against Saint Mary's, undefeated and #1 in the conference and on the road, should be a good game. Gonzaga is ranked #12 in the nation, St Mary's, #18. One thing about wintering in Idaho, all the Zags games are televised.
Have you guys seen the commercial of the Northern Quest Casino with Drew Timme? It's funny, but can't find a link to it. Timme say's to the guy, you are up 1200 dollars and I have a test tomorrow....the other guys replies, "What's more important, my winning a jackpot or your entire future sometime in the future?".

Rematch Thursday against Loyola, should be pretty good...maybe they will get hot going into the tournament.
At this point I think the best one can expect is the Sweet 16 round.

Timme! Fun, anxious, well-earned win on a Sunday night! 8 straight Sweet Sixteens!
