Sad news that the Hinman glacier is no more. frown.gif KUOW: RIP Washington’s Hinman Glacier, gone after thousands of years Earlier story from Mauri Pelto's blog: Loss of Hinman Glacier, North Cascade Range 1958-2022 Now King County is down to just 3 glaciers, the Foss, the Overcoat, and the Lynch. The Foss is barely hanging on and is just a handful of ice patches basically. While the Lynch and Overcoat have definitely shrunk a lot in recent decades, they do have some area that remains an accumulation zone.

Can’t say it’s a surprise, so it goes frown.gif

I used to live a block away from Dr. Harry B. Hinman's house. I wonder what the glacier was like when he was climbing like a maniac, around 1910. I'm not sure if he ever climbed that peak, though.

RIP. Here's a couple pics from 2021. I guess at the time I thought it was a real glacier but looking back it's definitely stagnant.

I just noticed that there's currently (5:00P, 2/1/23) a photo of Mt. Hinman and a link to a story about the glacier's death at the top of the cnn.com website. For those who never expected to see Hinman, Ukraine, Tom Brady and Al Sharpton on the same screen, you may be surprised. Article: Hinman Glacier CNN Article

Dante and I made the trip some years ago as well. That Hinman lake outlet area is truly beautiful.

Which aspect of Hinman (North, South, East, West) ) are you calling the "back side" of Hinman? Cause now I want to go there!

Hey, Tom, you may be owed some money by CNN. I see they used your photo and credited themselves!

For the good of the order here is a similar view taken August 1984. That was a fairly heavy snow year I think. My photos from the same trip show La Bohn Lakes mostly iced over.
