Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

Some years ago, we were thrashing our way up a wild drainage in the pouring rain, aiming for Mount Logan, when I tried to escape the brush by walking down a long sloping log. Two-thirds of the way down, I slipped and slid off the end, landing in a bees nest. Ever try to escape bees while wearing a 50-pound pack in dense, sopping wet brush? I got stung a dozen times in the head before I outran them. When I stopped, panting, dripping, I looked down, and at my feet was a big mylar balloon. "Happy Birthday!" it said cheerily. AND IT WAS MY BIRTHDAY.

The balloon punchline makes that story hilarious--despite the stings. ~z

How long before NORAD orders a $500k mission to drop a Baby’s First Birthday Mylar ballon.

Keep Calm and Carry On? Heck No. Stay Excited and Get Outside!

Hiking the Granite Creek Connecter Trail, on my way to Mailbox's North Ridge, something shiny caught my eye.
Looks like I'll have to come back with a saw to cut down that tree down to clean up the woods.
But wait, there's something even shinier just down there!!!! Screw the one in the tree.
Score! The Avengers! (And my largest balloon yet!)
I feel a bit less bad about the squirrel I hit on the way to the trailhead. Rest in peace little buddy.
