One of my favorite things about winter hiking is "Track" identification!
I came across these fairly fresh cougar tracks on the lower flanks of West Granite yesterday. One big kitty!
Followed them for ten yards or so. There are plenty of elk in that area. Makes me wonder if they are a food source for these big cats.
Cheers, B!
They are most definitely a food source. I take comfort in thinking that we are not (usually) because I see their tracks often as well as those of wolves.

So no need to strap masks on the back of our heads, as per Sunderban villagers? :-)
One thing we don't have here in Wa state is a under population problem with cougars. They can be quite nocturnal which is when most people have them on trail cams.
It must be established territory because over the years I've seen prints on the road continuing from Absolute Last Promontory which leads to an overgrown road network that spiderwebs all the way to Bessemer.
