I finally made it up into this area! Well worth the wait!
Parked just passed the Countyline Creek bridge, on Hwy 20. There's room for three or four cars.
Left the truck at 4:00 pm and was setting up camp the Mebee Benchmark at 8:00.
There's some blowdown to deal with near the bottom of the route, but it mainly clears up after the first 1/2 mile.
I hit snow around 4'500 and was in it for the majority of the trip.
Tarheel & Beebe
Mebee and where I camped
On route to Tarheel. Gabriel left, Elija Ridge center-right.
Beebe center, Jack & Crater distant right.
Looking bak, Mebee center-right, Cabinet center.
Time to head back
btw, Cabinet Peak seem to be in good shape.
I followed the same route out and made it back to the truck by 4:00.
Fun trip into some special country! I'd really like to link a loop up with Beebe! Maybe next time.
Cheers B!

Granite Mountain sure looks different than I remember...
Joking aside, nice early season trip! The North Cascades never disappoint.

I remember making that trip on September 2, 1972 which is the day the NC Highway opened. Been up there a few times since. Nice country.

Dan, I've really enjoyed reading your reports, and have read them a few times! Great stuff and a nice bit of history!
I recall you named "Tarheel" after your daughters Alma mater, University of North Carolina?

I'm eager to do a trip up Gaberial and hopefully this year!
Cheers, B!

I named it after my daughter who was born in North Carolina in July of that year. I came out on holiday in late August to do some climbing and then returned to NC.
