I never spoke with him but did guide a year or two with his son @ MM. I spoke to Lowell and he said he never interviewed Tom Hornbein, but I know Lowell, Mark Bebie and I did the first half of the SW face of Early Morning Spire pioneered by he and Dick Emerson. At the mid-point we worked right to avoid the upper chimney. This is probably one of the best two or three routes in the greater Eldorado-Cascade Pass area. With his educational emphasis and climbing life, Hornbein's life was one well lived.

https://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-adventure/climbing/remembering-tom-hornbein-everest-pioneer/ I just did a quick scan. Found a section describing his compassion as a md quite powerful. Quite a guy.
