People are bad. Someone also blew up an old outhouse at the base of Deer creek road a couple of years ago. The main Big 4 parking lot has large bathrooms, seems they would replace the one at the picnic area though. Pretty sure they replaced all the wood in the boardwalk a couple of years ago, so it might be for other trail work. We will have to go off trail before the picnic area if we want to try again for the HooDoo mine.

The fool had fallen into the latrine the week before while groping for his keys and got pissed.

Wow, that seems a bit extreme to close that many roads and TH's all in one summer...but on the plus side there should be way less traffic flying by my place in Verlot and some of the roads, which are in horrible condition will hopefully be repaired.

No "hopefully" needed. The roads are being rebuilt with many new culverts, brushcutting, ditch work, grading, and asphalt patching on Pilchuck. I am excited to see the results. Thinning of old clearcuts is also occurring. Mallardy is open on weekends starting at noon on Fridays

Drove up to the Heather lake TH today, the road is graded and all the huge potholes are filled, amazing and also amazing that it took so long, lol.

Not too surprising with the shoe string budget the USFS was getting. The Great American Outdoors Act and the infrastructure bill are having awesome results! Having the timber sale on the SF Stilly also helped.

Barlow Pass is still gated as of yesterday. Not sure why.

Yeah what is the deal with that? The County and USFS are being unusually cagey about what is keeping the MLH closed this late. No way there is still snow on the road. And usually when there is a washout, they tell us about it.

Seems like they waited until about now last year to open it, maybe it's the new "norm"? huh.gif Kinda like how they used to wait longer to close the Pilchuck road at the Heather lake TH in winter.

I can tell you they have NOT regraded the part between White Chuck and Bedal. I drove it yesterday, it was the worst I've ever seen it.

Are you able to drive up to the Barlow gate from the white chuck side? Last year there was a tree down a mile or so before the gate but I can't imagine that's the reason for the holdup.

It's closed between Bedal and Barlow Pass, so no, you can't drive to Barlow Pass from White Chuck.

There was some mention of the closure on the readerboard outside the Darrington Ranger Station when we stopped by there a week ago. Looks like it’s going to be closed for a while but not sure why.

Does anyone know if you can access the closure on foot or bike? Seems like it would be a good time to hike/backpack to Goat Lake.
