Hey polarbear, I ran across this site that has some first hand recounting of what the CCC was like. It's not all quality information, but there are some interesting stories.

Great find, guys. Thank goodness people are archiving this information. Like our WWII vets, these guys are all dying off and it's wonderful that someone is preserving this history. I had an uncle who worked for the CCC,and my wife's father did so, also. Good going! Cliff

My short-term memory is not as sharp as it used to be. Also, my short-term memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Cool stuff, thanks for sharing. Maybe someone knows something more about this- was the CCC involved in the irrigation work done up in the Snow Lakes area on the way to the Enchantments? 100 Hikes/Alpine Lks. mentions work done up there in the 30's constructing a pipe between the two lakes to insure a source of water for the Leavenworth fish hatchery, and there's obviously a low dam there too. It's been awhile but I distinctly recall seeing a large outlet pipe spewing water downstream Snow Crk below the lower of the Snow Lks- it 's rather strange to see this obviously man-made thing way up there. Also, what's the history of irrigation use of Colchuck Lk.- is that another CCC project? Thanks for any info! M&S
