Here is a great article from the PI on the Olmsted brothers who helped create many of Seattle's parks (Seward being one of my favorites).

That was an interesting article, glad we got the right Olmsted to do the job! The story touched on how Seattle looked when he first took a gander at the city- lots of logged-off areas especially. I've always been amused when people think of the "good old days" and picture an idylic landscape, when quite the opposite was generally the case thanks to a propensity to level the existing trees for a growing city. Most pictures I've seen of older Seattle show a stark, ugly landscape created by man. Thank goodness there has been some progress made over time in trying to correct past mistakes & ways of thinking about our environment.
