I used to dread doing taxes until I started using TurboTax. My mutual fund company (Vanguard) offers it for free. After using it for the last 5 years, I would pay for it even if they didn't. up.gif

Ah....'tis soooooo nice not having to file taxes. Of course the downside is I'm scrounging for cash, but, hey, there has to be some trade off, right? I'll just have to look forward to my refund for next year then. agree.gif

I've filed my taxes online through turbotax.com the last few years and it's been great. The cost is minimal and it's very easy to do. Since they offer e-file and direct deposit, I usually get my refund in just a few days after filing. It's completely painless.

In the last 1 1/2 hours I did my taxes (start to finish) thanks to TurboTax. I'm getting a whopping $5 refund. biggrin.gif Anyone ever get closer than that? Looks like the refund party will be at Taco Bell this year. Steak quesadillas!

You guys lucky are. Why, I had to pay extra taxes because of some special pay I got with no tax removed. I get to pay $1300! I think the company is irresponcible not taking out at least 20%. It took me 30 minutes to do my taxes by hand. Didn't even get to deduct for boots and rain gear due to the high standard deduction.

I got my return back at the end of February. I've spent a little of it and was tempted to get a new Delta Unisaw ($1200) but with the new house I decided to put it in the bank for those unexpected expenses.

Despair is only for those who see the end beyond all doubt.

I haven't done it because I have to pay. Hopefully when I go through the check register and credit card statements for deductions I can find enough of them to get rid of the $49 late payment penalty. My wife sold some stock when we bought a new house and between the move, the new baby and overtime, I forgot to make an estimated payment or adjust her withholding accordingly. I try to aim for a zero balance return. Don't like loaning Uncle Sam zero interest money. It's iresponcible wink.gif But then so is paying penalties frown.gif P.S. I don't file electronically HERE'S ONE REASON. I'm very conservative when it comes to taxes to protect my professional licenses. I just don't want to subject my return to the screeneing process or do anything else that might increase the likelyhood that the IRS will review or audit of my tax return.
