Is there really a swath of trees cut on the Canadian/American Border? This picture was taken on a satellite just above Horseshoe Basin. http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/image.a....=11&W=2

Art is an adventure.

There sure is on the PCT at monument 78! Big ol' swath of trees out, looks like a power line used to be there.

Yup, the swath is for real. 20 yards or more in width. Straight as an arrow. Surveyed with precision by hardy guys with transits...now long since passed on. I've often thought I'd like to sub-contract the trimming work for a 30 mile section or so. Career move. My kind of cubicle.

A great actual human-eye view of the Canadian-Alaskan border-slash is by water approaching the upper end of Portland Canal (a sea-water fljord south of Ketchikan, Alaska) heading towards Stewart B.C. and the small Alaskan town of Hyder. The slash is a broad light vertical band reaching up the slopes and out of sight on the mountain unfortunate enough to be located on the border. Like a electric clippers gone mad on the scalp of Hagrid! It is really cool to see. It also creates the idea of working on the border-patrol to maintain the swath for a season. Aerobic "pruning!!!!"
