Not a hike at all really just a neat part of mining history. The tunnel was dug through the hill on the bend of the river to let them scoop up the GOLD that was there for the taking. They did hydraulic mining as well and if you look you can see it's after math. The tunnel was dug in hard rock and the floor was done in a way that it was used as a sluice. Only place I think you will find that. Good amount of water flowing through it so boot's are a good bet this time of year. First thing you see is this sign.
Everett own's this part of the river and not even panning is allowed ? Here are a few shot's of the tunnel and the floor.
After this we headed for another place of interest. Here's a shot of a Pelton wheel..
That's it..

Jimbo, what was the function of a Pelton wheel? Cool stuff. P.S. Cotton kills.

Not Jimbo, but I was along for the ride. Air Compressors are what that pelton powered.

Wow, thanks, Hound. I noted the name of the manuf'er on the machinery. Neat link to Ingersoll-Sergeant (Ingersoll Rand) company. Old timey machinery is interesting as hell. I don't get very deep into the "how" this stuff works, other than layperson interest, but I like the various ways the businesses started and morphed.

Ya, "Ingersoll-Sergeant" means it was manufactured before 1905. So it's an oldie. I did a little research after visiting this one last summer with Jimbo(requires a blood sacrifice to get to)

I like this thread. It is fun to be reminded of bloodletting events in Coney and Bear Basins

Great photos! up.gif up.gif up.gif How deep does that tunnel go?

Touron is a nougat of Arabic origin made with almonds and honey or sugar, without which it would just not be Christmas in Spain.
