lol.gif lol.gif Two handles--way too funny. By the way, what's with some folk calling Rainier, Tahoma? I can understand people using more than one alias, but why does a mountain need one? And please don't say something lame-ola like "because it's there". We already know it rains here. Anyone know what connotation Tahoma has and where it came from?

It's the Mongol immigrant name for "The Mountain".

Tahoma is the Native American name. Kinda like Tacoma, eh? What a coincidence. Denali for Mt McKinley. Too-wit for Mt St Helens. Anyone know Adams, Hood, etc? I forget...

Hey Miss, you crack me up. OK, some scholarly research from the published Fred Beckey: Mt Adams became idolized as Pah-to, son of the Great Spirit, or Klickitat, to the Indians, and linked in a legend concerning a fraternal battle with Wy-east (Hood) in the courtship of Loo-wit (St Helens). Mt Baker was known as Koma Kulshan (meaning broken or damaged) by the N.A. Also called La Gran Montana del Carmelo in 1790. Glacier Peak was called Great Parent (DaKobed, with various spellings). Sheesh. Glacier Peak isn't much of a name! It's a real mountain.
