Wow, you guys are really missing out. People have started posting nekkid hiking pitchers of themselves on that thread!

Catwoman, don't listen to the nattering nabobs of negativity. You do rock. Your recent trip reports have been a joy to read. As far as the "misconstrue" thing, I think it's because it's so hard to tell when someone is kidding or serious in print. Maybe we should have a feature on this board where every time someone posts, it is delayed five minutes, then the poster would be promted something like "Do you really want to post this?" Probably half my posts would have been deleted at that point, especially this one!

Actually, you do have that option. After you post, you're taken to your post where, if so desired, you can read it and choose to edit or delete it.

I was only joking, but in your scenario, others may read it before it is deleted, and there is nothing that forces a re-assesment of the post. I remember reading a post of BPJ's that was massively edited only a minute after the original post. However, I really do love the board just like it is. My suggestion was tongue-in-cheek, but no one can see my tongue over the internet!
This post was written before Quarks post above was posted. Quark, I'm not sure if your "cracks me up" comment was meant as a compliment, but I choose to take it that way, so thanks!

I don't know about other people, but I don't even bother to go to a thread if it's so long and old like that - too hard to get through the pages. Is it even about the same topic as when it started? Yes, I know it's not all about me and what I want, but just thought I'd throw that out there to y'all in case it sounds like a good idea. |
Quark - I did not say anything rude or nasty or mean, unlike you and a few of your cohorts. Not even exactly a complaint, but a S-U-G-G-E-S-T-I-O-N. Perhaps I should have posted that in the room for admin and then they would have probably told me to just deal with it and I'd have said no problem. But you seem to seek me out just so you can be a jack*ss, so I'm sure it wouldn't have made a bit of difference.

My two cents
|
|
|
For what's its worth, here's my two scents:
Long threads like the CNN thread -- I usually read the last few posts as it's a good way for me to catch on the news. Sure, there are some strong opinions but most are well-stated and when/if I get bored I move to another thread, just like setting down the newspaper to get another cup of coffee.
Catwoman, I really hope you don't get so bummed out you stop posting. I truly enjoy your trip reports because they are so vivid and alive. I almost feel like I am hiking beside you on the trail when you write. Like Quark, though, I would look forward to seeing more of your photos along with your write-ups.
Quark, you have a wonderful way with words but it is a bit like a two-edged sword. Some may find it a challenge to figure out whether you are playing or dueling in earnest.
However this all works out, I hope NOBODY quits posting and I continue to hope that we NEVER agree on everything because it would be BORING if we did.

Quark's claws are anything but scraggly. Her hair, sometimes, but never the claws. Nor the wit.

Concern over thread length. I can't believe this is even an issue.

Ditto, but certain argumentative folks like to make everything an issue.

Perhaps we can get the 'thread length' thread longer than the 'cnn' thread.

All I did was bring up a suggestion. I didn't make it an issue.
