I was at a bakery today and ordered a mocha and a piece of pie - the lady asked if the pie were for here or to go - I held out my hand and said, "I'll eat it as I drive. Just put it directly in my hand," and so she did. A little slowly and hesitant, but once she understood the concept, she was alright with it.
Turnovers are great for berry pies.

I made cobblers and put them in those cheapo aluminum pans with the cheapo plastic covers and taped them shut. Cobbler was the least labor intensive thing I am capable of. Most of the guys wiill eat anything, so they'll be a hit. I think their main staple is cold cans of soup because I'm constantly telling them to pick up the $#%$ empty cans. Oh and those "energy" drinks. Luckily, I canned a few pints of berries so still have some. Well, gotta get going...turnovers, eh?
What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

Pumpkin of course, but there has to be whip cream all over it as it is the best part.

My Mother's Pumpkin Pie Recipe
( for two pies )
1 large ( 29-ounce ) can pumpkin
1 ( 8 oz. ) can Eagle sweetened condensed milk
6-8 eggs, depending on size of pie tins
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon each: cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, allspice, ginger, mace
Mix pumpkin and milk together in a large bowl. Then add eggs, sugar, and spices.
Then stir in:
1/2 can ( 1/4 cup ) evaporated milk
Pour into unbaked ( thick ) pie shells and bake at 425° f for 10 minutes.
Reduce oven to 325° f and bake for 35-45 minutes - until done.
------
My pie crust
2 cups white flour
1/2 cup ( cold ) Crisco
1/2 cup ( 1 stick ) ( frozen ) butter
1/4 teaspoon each: cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, cardamom
1 teaspoon white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
Mix all the dry ingredients in a big bowl. Chop up the frozen butter into little pieces before adding. Cut together with two butter knives or pastry maker. Sprinkle in 8-15 teaspoons ice water ( depending on temperature and ambient humidity ), roll into ball, wrap in wax paper and let rest in refrigerator 20-30 minutes, let sit at room temperature 10-20 minutes before rolling out.
------
<edit 112714> I stopped using butter for the crust a few years ago; after asking many different people it seemed the majority of them preferred the crust made with straight Crisco.

Pumpkin all the way. I'm glad I'm not the only one who adds tons of extra spices. Really...pumpkin itself isn't that good. IMO

Depends on the day--
Pecan, apple, cherry, huckleberry, lemon meringue.
Now, I'm just hungry...

Can you freeze a pecan pie?
I think I got too many pecans for one pie but one is all I want at Thanksgiving along with the other pies, and I want to do it just once.

Comrades,
Pecan that is real gooey but not too sweet with real whip cream and the Pennsylvania Amish folk make a Shoo Fly pie that'll rock your skinny little world.

WTF? Am I the only one that voted for Mincemeat Pie? That stuff totally rocks!
I was at Costco yesterday and noticed that they now have Double Chocolate Cream Pies - OMG, my mouth watered all the way to checkout. I'll consider that a fallback if I can't get Mincemeat.
BTW: My daughter likes pumpkin but only because she's a whipped cream hound and smothers her slice of pie with the stuff.
