This is one of a couple hikes I have to do this summer. It was featured in backpackers Best Dam Weekend Ever in 2008.

Im seeing if anyone else is interested in this trip. Plan to do it May/June depending if the snow continues to melt like it has been.
I can drive us and my dates are flexible.

Some where between 3-5.
There is a 16 mile trip or a 32 mile trip. Im up for either.
The 32 mile trip would require two cars though.

In 2008 there were 32 caribou... So needle in a hay-stack for sure, but i rather try and fail.... then not try at all.

I've ridden horses out of gypsy meadows and around thunder mtn several times without seeing caribou, there's reportedly a wolf pack in that region also. if I was looking for the caribou and assuming their not all ate, I would consider two mouth lk in the Idaho selkirks. scramble the nearby granite for spying. much less traveled and more remote but also more likely to see caribou and mr grizzly. keep us posted when you get closer to a plan.

There's a trip report about the Salmo-Priest Loop trail somewhere on this site..........
I did a section of this trip myself two seasons (or three!) ago.........great area.
