I'd like to hike up to the high point of Icicle Ridge via the 4th of July creek trail on Saturday. It's 10.6 miles RT, with a 4700 ft elevation gain to 7000 feet. Anyone interested?

I'm hoping to get to join Flow for Eldorado on Friday night and Saturday but if the avalanche conditions don't look good, or there is bad chemistry in the party I'd like to consider Icicle Ridge. I should know by Thursday night.

There's a slight chance that this hike may have to wait until Sunday. Would that work out any better for anyone?

I'm interested. The weather is looking better on Saturday at the moment... I'd be driving from Seattle, so couldn't start too early; what time did you have in mind?

figure it's about 13 miles rt, so would need a somewhat early start. But I might have something going on Saturday evening, which would make me wait a day. Should be able to figure it out tomorrow.

The hike up to the site of the old lookout via the trail is 5.45 miles gaining 4853 feet. About 1/3 of a mile less just to the ridge. A good workout even in summer with no snow. Of course snow covered there may be short (albeit steeper) cuts.

Plus 1-2 miles to get to the trailhead...

9am too late? Based on the elevation gain and distance I figure 6-8 hours -- depending on how firm the snow is going up, and how slideable it is on the way down...

I'm gonna have to put off the Icicle Ridge hike until next weekend. frown.gif I've snagged an opportunity to join a climb up Eldorado peak this weekend, and that's been on my to-do list for awhile. Maybe we can make this hike next weekend?

Is there a reason you didn't consider the shorter approach via 4th of July Creek as well?

If anyone is heading up on Sunday, hope to see you. My brother and I will be on the trail.

Those routes were drawn out very early in the season. Mostly because of the long approach to get to the 4th of July TH. Otherwise, I'd not dispute heading up 4th smile.gif
