I wonder where the snow starts on Suntop? Last year when I did it in February you had to park at the highway as they never opened the sno park due to down trees (my sno park pass $$$$$ NOT at work apparently)...

I hope they'd mention that on the Sno-Park website? Would add another ~2 miles each way...

What about Eldorado?

What would you think about Eldorado?
Access to trailhead and conditions look great.
I'm reading all these trip reports from there, I'm quite excited to go.
Let me know.
Jerry.

I'm not saying it's closed this year. They did mention on the sno park site last year it was closed for downed trees. I know it was open all the way to the last gate last October because I drove up and hiked up the .5 mile trail one morning.
This year I'm wondering at what point even past the sno park that the road actually has snow and you would be snowshoeing.
Last year physically it was a bit of a slog all the way from the highway with snow all the way. Most of the way it was pretty packed down though so it was easy snowshoeing relatively speaking.

Looks tempting, but I'm afraid I lack some of the basic equipment and skills that might be required for Eldorado (such as handling ropes), so I'm out for that one.

I'm sure there will be snow at the top, and even if only get to strap on my snowshoes a few feet below the lookout, it still counts as a snowshoe trip :-)
