My hiking partner and I just completed a four day trip of 26 miles in day hikes (we returned to the condo each evening) in Oregon.
The last hike of the trip was Coffin Mountain Lookout on the way home. It is a 3 mile RT with 1000 feet elevation gain. It is located on Hwy 11 off of Hwy 22 just SE of Detroit Lake.
If you love wildflowers this is a wonderful hike. They are in full bloom. Yellow, white, purple, red, and pink. You name the flower and it is probably there.
As for solitude, ran into one other couple.
Trail is steep in places but not to bad. One small patch of snow has to be traversed, but if I can do it, anyone can.
Took a little over an hour to reach the summit. The view was hampered only by the haze from the forest fires burning in Oregon right now.
The Lookout is manned and is closed to visitors. We had a nice snack on the helipad before heading back down.
