While scanning my favorite section of my morning paper, the comics, I came across a wink.gif reference to Minotaur. I went to the dictionary and looked up Minotaur and Theseus. Who ever named those 2 lakes must have been quite knowledgeable in Greek mythology.javascript:emoticon('wink.gif')

Add Lake Janus to that list

I wonder how about Snowbrushy Creek at upper Entiat? Snowbrush of course is flora, a plant. Someone creatively put a Y on the end of the word. Who would have thought of doing that? Thanks for this interesting thread.

Thanks for the Wiki link. Quite interesting. Did anyone notice how he named all the lakes after female personalities?

That's the only history anyone studied until a bit in to the 20th century, along with Roman. There was no such thing as studying American history in, say, the 19th century or even in the beginning of the 20th.

I was bored and browsing on this rainy day and found this thread with the link to the wiki page that gives background on many of the non-native names in the cascades, fascinating!

Not so. Theseus Lake itself is named after the mythical king of Athens. Lake Jason in Chelan County was named by Sylvester after Forest Supervisor Jason Williams. Lake Donald in SW Chelan County was named by Sylvester for the son of Jason Williams. There are likely other lakes as well but those are all that come to mind.
