ajgoodkids, 3-section poles would have fit in my suitcase. Mine are 2 section and fit nicely in the ski slots on my pack. They are a little harder to travel with. You bring up a good point. I tighten my poles several times a hike. It's no fun to put your weight on one on a steep descent and have it collapse.

I never adjust mine but I have to tighten them from time to time. Turns out that the natural action of walking loosens one of them (I think it's the left) so you need to tighten them if they are the 'twist to tighten' variety. I envy you those who don't need poles! My ankles are busticated and mileagewise my knees are old. I'd love to be able to leave the dumb poles at home. I don't feel as old as my joints feel.
