April 4 hike up Tunnel Creek to shelter. Wonderful time walking through the magnificent forest of hemlock, fir, and above ~3,000, rhodies and yews. Interesting to see younger trees filling in the under-story in some areas but not others. Brisk wind and snow flurries kept us moving. I look forward to a return trip to explore up towards Cunningham Basin.

4/4/15-Great hike up to Silver Lake via Poodle Dog Pass via Monte Cristo. Started with a little rain (and slush dropping out of the trees on us) but turned into a beautiful sunshiny day. Went all the way up without traction devices but they were pretty nice to have coming down from Silver Lake to Monte Cristo. Happy Easter!

Lovely! Did you see any signage about the upcoming closure?

This was posted at the start of the road walk into Monte Cristo. I kept trying to click on the hyperlinks to see more information but eventually gave up. doh.gif I plan to do a little reading today on mc-pa.org and other sites.

Although I hadn't been up there myself previously, it did appear some artifacts have been removed already based on pictures others have posted and bare spots on the ground that suggested something sat there until recently. HERE are the rest of my pictures if you are interested.

We have a network of trails in our neighborhood. Forced the kidling into an after school hike today. About 2 miles RT and about 300 feet of gain and loss. And no whining! smile.gif Lots of flowers in bloom, but we're a little behind the Wenatchee area wildflowers (we are about 700' higher in elevation than L'worth) In no particular order:

After reading 3 Tr's on WTA about a 'new' trail near Spada Lake, "Sultan River Canyon Trail," I decided to check it out yesterday. This was my first time on the Sultan Basin Rd. to Spada Lake/Culmback Dam. We registered @ Olney Pass, then down to the lake, parked at the gate. We walked across the dam, talked to some workers and headed back to gate, walked the road 2 miles to actual TH. It's only a mile down to the river, 16 switchbacks, several waterfalls, great trail with boardwalks just before the trail ends at the river. Had lunch and back up 640' to road. A great day!!

Was there a lot of snow leftover from last weekend?

There was snow around the lake and alongside the trail, but the trail itself was mostly snow free and just really muddy in some places. It had to have been close to 70 degrees in the afternoon, so expect a lot more melting through the weekend. No people yet..

Johnson Ridge to Scorpion Sat 4/18/15. There was snow from the start!! We opted for snowshoes within the first mile. Open areas were pretty post-holey. As of today, there's a nice track laid out for ya!

Update from Southeast Washington: "Mountain road" aka Pomeroy-Grouse Flat Road has been graded for a ways now. Quick trip down to the Tucannon then back up the Hunters Creek trail is open and clear. (Ten to twenty ticks each though). Road near misery looks snow covered. Hiked 4/17/15. Some flowers, no mushrooms yet. Took a walk up to Puffer Butte for the first time this weekend. Short hike up through the woods to a splendid view south to the very snowy Wallowas and the dry Grand Rhonde drainage. (The Butte is in Field Springs State Park south of Asotin. Looks great for cross country skiing when there is some snow!)
