For the first time I am going to take MRE'S with me on a week long hiking trip. Each one has the main coarse, peanut butter, crackers, fruit, flavered drink mix, pound or coffee cake, Tabasco sauce, M&Ms, a spoon, napkin, matches, and gum to chew. I'll let you all know how it works out.

MRE's are heavy! I'm not a lightweight freak and even I wouldn't take 'em on a weeklong.

crazy.gif hurl.gif Is this like some fear factor or endurance test to see how much you can punish your stomach before you puke? I admit I've only had the bread but that stuff would make a goat regurgitate.

Not to be a snob, but MREs are only better and lighter than what they replaced - C Rations eek.gif I'll take reconstituted freeze dried food or store variety "just add boiling water" meals over MREs every time. For those of you who are too young to know what C Rations were, they were MREs, but instead of plastic retort packages, the food was in steel cans. At least MREs include Tobasco now. I was in the Army when they were introduced (we had to eat our WWIII supply of C Rations before we could start eating the MREs in the field) they didn't have Tobasco.

My son-in-law (a newly commissioned Lt in the Army) gave me some MREs for hiking. I kept them in my car and gave them to the beggars by the freeway.
