Here's what Garland looks like today 9/30/12. PUD is about done with the rehab and a nice field of topsoil and spray on grass has recently been applied. Lots a $$$ spent. I saw one well head still showing with a pressure gauge installed? Was this left for future development by the owners? Come next summer there will be a beautiful field of grass that's table top smooth. Perfect size for a softball field...... Build it and they will come!......
Cabins are about what they were like last time there. 2.5 years ago. More metal roofing has fallen off the nearest cabin to the river and was smacking in the occasional breeze. Would have been creepy if it wasn't sunny out. You can almost hear the ghosts of yesteryear if you listen carefully. The mineral springs were still nasty looking swamp goos. I was ready for the Creature of the Black Lagoon to jump out at me..... Were they like this in the day?....or kept clean? There's a thick layer of swamp goo except for the areas where the water is bubbling up. My dog Rocky tried to walk out on the goo and promptly sank with a surprise!..... Here's a dump of pics.
Walking the new road into Garland. Garland Mineral Springs. Garland old cabins. Old cabin New well head and old cabins. Old cabins. Old bathhouse? and new spray on grass. Old bathhouse?....internet ready to the right. Old cabins and trimmed tree. Garland view looking east from the swimming pool. Old swimming pool at Garland. Plop plop, fizz fizz at Garland. Garland Mineral Springs. Garland Mineral Springs. Garland sunset. Mineral creek outfall. Garland Falls. Garland view.

Good to see the project equipment and plastic removed. Still private property?
Many of the cabins still have 70s era dishes and cups ready to use.............

Was camping out at Troublesome Campground with my family and we had to check out Garland. I took a few pictures of the place. Pretty worn down but really cool to walk thru and imagine what it was like in it's heyday!
Here is Garland 7/4/14:

Just wow, this thread is amazing. I was just up in the area yesterday exploring with older son (take Dad out exploring for Father's Day). I observed a number of surveyor stakes out in the meadow; the former SnoPUD drilling pad, which seems nicely restored. The cabins are all in a slow state of decay, most containing bits and pieces of human jetsam, some of it old, some new. A boneyard in back has large coils of plastic pipe, PVC pipe, and an old typewriter. The springs were bubbling nicely. It was calm and peaceful, no one in sight.

Hi Jon,
Long time no see. The last was the Dutch Cup. How are you doing?
I would like to talk to you again if you could message me with your phone number that would be great.
I was wanting to add a few stories of my own about Garland. I have a lot of memories from my time spent there. I think it would be fun to go back and visit.
Drop me a line if you could.
Maybe we could get together for lunch again sometime. I would love to catch up with you.
Hope to hear from you soon.

A family friend who works for Sno Co roads Dept. was recently working in the area (hopefully working towards reopening Index/Galena Road) He's the one who told me about this place. I've been to the nearby Blanca Lake trail, but didn't know this historical place was down the hill. Today I stopped by and took some photos, and have spent the last couple hours reading this entire thread. THANK YOU to all the contributors! I love reading about the history and seeing old photos of what it used to look like. It looks like another cabin has washed away. In other photos I see 2 cabins on the far side of the field closest to the river. There was only one when I went today.
I noticed a rock fire ring in the field PUD created. I'm curious if the owners would mind respectful, leave no trace minded campers?
I have a few more photos I've made public on Facebook, including a panoramic of the field, if you'd like to see them. https://www.facebook.com/tamiadair

Some friends and I went to hike Troublesome Mountain yesterday and we came across some remnants on the hillside including wooden pipes with rusty coils. The Summitpost page pointed me to this thread... really, really neat to read about all this history. I figured I'd post to bring the thread to the top so that others might stumble upon and read!

For whatever it's worth, I looked at the satellite view of Garland in Google Maps upon seeing new activity in this thread. It confirms Tamikalou's post from 2017 quite nicely - the river has sideswiped a good chunk of the open field, and the cabin & trimmed tree that were up against the water in earlier photos have migrated downstream. I wonder how long the current waterfront cabin will last, and for that matter I wonder how many more major storms the open flat and even the springs themselves will hold out.
