There used to be a trail that went from Black Creek up to Mount Pilchuck. We didn't get far (very brushy) but we did find some artifacts near Black Creek at the site of the Moose Shingle Mill. If you park along the Mountain Loop at Black Creek (before you cross the bridge) you can find an unsigned path that leads to the shingle mill site (it used to be a Forest Serice interpretative walk too), a few posts, UMOs (unidentified metal objects) and this last standing sign (obviously put up by the Forest Service when there the interpretetive trail was there). You can follow Black Creek a short distance to a steep, slippery view over the old dams at Black Creek or better yet, cross to the other side of the creek and look for a very faint path that climbs out of the car camp area and leads to a forested ridge -- the path leading downhill leads to an excellent look at the dam structures that remain. I realize this isn't a prize winning photograph but it was very dark in there and it's fun to find these things. A few of you feel the same way, I know.
