Access to the trailheads to Mason, Talapus, and Ollalie Lakes, etc., is blocked by a massive mudslide about 1/3 mile from the freeway on the access road (9030).  You'll have to walk in, though crossing the thick mud is dicey (it's like quick sand).  Look for rocks and tree trunks to step on.

The stream here is quite modest, but the slide is not. You can see how it left a 100' wide path uphill, scouring all vegetation off the hillside but leaving the bigger trees intact. A yellow backhoe is stranded on the far side of the slide.

The rest of the 3 mile road to the Ira Spring trailhead is in good shape, as is the trail up to 4000', where fresh snow was 3" deep. This looks like the last hike before deep winter snow sets in.

Thanks for the update.... indeed, I think our days of hiking (at least w/o winter equipment) are severely numbered.
