Is there such a thing as a nutritionally complete trail food? Like meal replacement bars, but more normal food rather than sugar with vitamins. I know enough about nutrition to know one if I saw one, but...... Failing anyone knowing that, how could I make something like that?

Just use trail mix... you can make your own... and add all the nutrition you want! wink.gif Me... I just stick with Nutrigrain bars, granola bars, and sunflower seeds or peanuts. And since it's cold out... i bring a thermos of something hot like tomato soup or hot tea! I figure i'm burning enough just hiking period. Plus I know I need the energy...

To the mountain lion, of course, a hiker who eats all the nutri grain stuff, trail mix, granola; YOU would be considered "nutritionally complete trail food" hockeygrin.gif

Remember the 4 food groups and you’ll be fine - beer, grease, salt and chocolate

This trail bar recipe on my site is tasty! I make it quite often, and it freezes well.

Chocolate. Hot chocolate. Dark chocolate. Chocolate gu. Chocolate anything. chow.gif I'm sorry I'm not much help in the area of healthy hiking food. If it's not interesting or tasty I tend to not eat, then I run out of gas. So I just go for the good stuff and figure I'll burn off the bad stuff by exercising!

My trail mix recipe: Dried blueberries-loaded with anti-oxidants. Dark Chocolate baking chips-ditto above. Cashews- for your protein. Grape Nuts-for carbohydrates.

On the trail? Fruits, nuts, whole grains or whole-grain snacks. At camp - my new favorite breakfast is a serving of Bob's Red Mill oatmeal or Museli with a serving of flax seed meal and maybe some chopped wallnuts. Just add boiling water. Good natural fuel, that will keep you regular, too lol.gif

I recently found some great bars at Costco in Wenatchee - the Larabar. Assorted dried fruits (not sweetened) mixed with assorted nuts - no added sugar. About as healthy as you can get - and rather tasty.
