Hey, check this out. I didn't know Mountain House sold its food in tubs/cans. This is way more economical than buying the individual pouches. I got off the phone with the vitacost lady and she said lots of folks order it in Florida for hurricane survival. Also, I'm wondering if this would be good in avy season?

Looks economical but wouldn't it be hit or miss to take 10 servings and split 'em up evenly, spices and all?

The cans don't save you any money though... 2 person Lasagna, for example is 4.8 ounces and costs $6 at REI. The 19.2 ounce can is $23.79. 4x4.8=19.2 and 4x$6=$24. The two person pouches (light, disposable, ziplock) aren't that bad of a deal, I guess...

Looks like ree's link has the better prices, en generale.

Back in 2000, I scored a ton of MH in cans after Y2K, for pennies on the dollar. I shook them up really, really well, and seperated them into freezer bags, using a kitchen scale. It was a gamble, but it usually came out ok taste wise.

Actually Mike, it's cheaper to buy the 2 person Lasagna if you compare prices at the same place. Guess it isn't as economical as I thought. doh.gif $4.56 for 4.8 oz x 4 = $18.24 $23.79 for 19.2 oz x 1 = $23.79

The spaghetti and other stuff is cheaper in the can though. Hmm.... Must be a price error on the lasagna. In any case, doesn't look like it's worth the effort to split up to save a few bucks, but thanks for the discount link ree! BTW, looks like you can use coupon code PD68ATL to save another 5%, plus another 6% via ebates. $4.18 for 4.51 oz Spaghetti x 4 = $16.72 $14.59 for 19 oz. Spaghetti x 1 = $14.59

I find that if you split dehydrated dinners (or are they freeze-dried?) and re-package them, they don't taste very good if you don't eat them fairly soon. They need those H-bomb packets of whatever - (freeze-dried oxygen?) to keep them fresh.
