Congrats Stefan. What an attitude. I had 2 girls and their mother wised them up to men at an early age. Darn. Enjoy, as they grow up quick. NN up.gif

It's pretty safe to say that if we take all of man kinds accumulated knowledge, we still don't know everything. So, I hope you understand why I don't believe you know everything. But then again, maybe you do.

Congratulations Stefan. Now's the time to start looking for one of those Kelty child carrier backpacks. Get thee out and imprint the smells of pine needles, wildflowers, mountain huckleberries on that child! I just became a grandfather last month - they grow up fast!

You'll be lucky enough to get them to carry their own pack. Congratulations. Backpacking with your kids is a lot of fun. I started with my oldest when she was 5. We did a 6 mile hike together, overnight. I have yet to take my two youngest ones backpacking overnight (not counting the trip we took last year) but they are up to it so we'll be doing more this year.

Congratulations! up.gif Start them when they are young I took mine around Tradition Lake a day or two out of the hospital. I carried a Snugli. You can go almost any where until they are two or so and want to walk and complain. We went on a week long trip with Llama support in the Wallowas(sp) at 6 mo.

Oh brother, now we're gonna get into WHEN they are ready for back country travel. I have a 20 month ole nephew. I told my brother that I wouldn't take him out until he was older. There are too many things that can happen out there when there is NO emergency response. If you are out at snow lake, and they hurt themselves. What are you going to do? Now, I travel ALONE all the time. The point is that it's ME! I'm responsible for me! Young life is TOO special to screw around with in the back country! Wait until they are 5-6-7-8 years old is my opinion. Before you ALL criticize me, think about what is MOST important here. The safety and welfare of those little tykes! TB

Frankly Stephan made me laugh outloud about "can't wait for him to carry my pack" when in reality we all know as well as he does that having this new stompin' dude will instead increase his carry load by 30-50% for say, the next 12 years! lol.gif You should have seen how much stuff I had to haul for a brief 3 mile hike up the Middle Fork Snoqualmie Trail two weeks ago when I was out there---treasure bags, Ranger Rick binoculars, writing journal pads (THREE of them), crayons, and that's only what was in my outside fanny pack! But, Christopher sure had fun! And that's all that mattered.....
