While fixing the latest forum glitch (caused by the search tables getting too big and slowing down the forum) I happened to sort the search tables by the most frequently indexed words. Just curious to see if anyone can guess the most commonly indexed "hiking related" word. This word appears in just under 15% of posts and is the 47th most frequently indexed word after...

Chafing?
On second thought, "snow" and "trail" are probably more reasonable guesses.

Actually, the most commonly indexed word has a slight unfair advantage because various forms of it get indexed as the one word. That should be a big hint.
If you count variations of the word "hike" (hiking, hikes, hiked) as one word then "hike" is the most common (appearing in 18% of all posts), followed by "trail" at 16% (if trails is also counted). "Snow" garners 8th place at 7%.
OK, counting variations of the same word as one, see if you can guess number 3, 4, and 5.

Ira, you don't need me, just do a search on responc* and divide by the number of posts showing up in the statistics on the main page.

I don't even know what you mean by most frequently "indexed" words!

Cat, the indexed words are those used to describe Mt Index, the town of Index, your index finger... and finally if you are a carpenter you may be "in decks". I hope this helps your confusion...

In order for the forum's search feature to work properly, it needs to maintain two tables. The first table maintains a list (index) of all words ever posted, and the second table maintains a list of where those words were posted. When you do a search on a particular word it looks at the first table to see if the word was indexed, and if it was it goes to the second table and tells you where.
