Yep, that functionality has always been there. You can also override your username on any post.

Oh my god, every time I wrote "allison" in that last post, it came out "marylou"! I guess it did there, too. It is now impossible to write your old screen name as it changes to the new name! STOP IT! HELP! Hey, that means I can stop anyone from ever saying any word I don't want to hear by changing my screen name to that word and then changing it again! Free-lance censorship! Whoopie!!!!!!!!

Word censor at work. It's like a whole new person. Ye shall utter the old name no more.

Sounds like a bug if you ask me. Although it does make Slugman sound like a lunatic in his first post above.

Be careful I don't change my name to "trail" and then change it to butthead, so that every time someone writes"trail", it will post as "butthead"! This could turn out to be serious!

Not a bug. Word censor (mapping) was done manually.

Author, said person requested the name change.
Erik, login with your new username if you changed it. Autologin might not work but if you forgot your password, just click on the lost password link. BTW, I always liked your handle from the previous board (Erik the Nav) hint hint.

How come I changed my username to Lake, logged out and back in again as Lake, then changed back to Slugman and relogged in, and every word "Lake" isn't now "Slugman"? My plan is foiled! Curses!

Oh, now I see... all taken care of.
Names, names. My favorite old nickname is Barb, if someone says "hey, Barb!" in the right tone of voice, my head will turn. Of course, there have been a few others . . . grunt, I answer to grunt, also. A lady wanted to marry me who called me that all the time, what the hell does that say about the world? One thing it says, is I probably shoulda, eh?
Some folks hereabouts sometimes refer to me as "the nav" which sounds right from them, but sounds wrong hanging it on myself. At that other place back when I used to post with all kinds of variations on the full title of The Navigator in Chief, Elanthian Ranger Corps. Much to the amusement of the First Lady and myself, someone actually recognized the derivation of it.
